Overview

The Indian Coast Guard, an Armed Force of the Union, offers a prestigious career opportunity for young and dynamic Indian male candidates to join as Assistant Commandant (Group 'A' Gazetted Officer) for the 2027 batch. This recruitment drive is for both General Duty and Technical (Engineering & Electrical/Electronics) branches.

Important: Applications will be accepted only online through the official Coast Guard recruitment website. Registration opens on 08 Jul 2025 at 1600 HRS and closes on 23 Jul 2025 at 2330 HRS.

Eligibility Criteria

Age Limit (as on 01 Jul 2026)

21-25 years (Born between 01 Jul 2001 and 30 Jun 2005, both dates inclusive)

Age Relaxation: 5 years for serving Coast Guard personnel or equivalent in Army/Navy/Air Force. Upper age relaxation: 5 years for SC/ST and 3 years for OBC (non-creamy layer) candidates if posts are reserved.

Technical (Electrical/Electronics)	Engineering degree in Electrical, Electronics, Telecommunication, Instrumentation, Instrumentation and Control, Electronics and Communication, Power Engineering or Power Electronics Mathematics and Physics up to Intermediate or Class XII

Final year students can apply but must submit proof of passing the degree examination by 31 Oct 2026.

Selection Process

The selection involves five stages. Clearing all stages is compulsory for recruitment.

Stage-I: Coast Guard Common Admission Test (CGCAT)

Computer-based online screening test with 100 MCQs

Duration: 2 hours

Subjects: English (25Q), Reasoning & Numerical Ability (25Q), General Science & Mathematical Aptitude (25Q), General Knowledge (25Q)

Marking: +4 for correct, -1 for incorrect

Tentative Date: 18 Sep 2025

Stage-II: Preliminary Selection Board (PSB)

Conducted at Noida, Goa, Chennai, Kolkata, Shillong/Guwahati, and Gandhinagar

Tests: Computerised Cognitive Battery Test (CCBT) and Picture Perception & Discussion Test (PP&DT)

Tentative Period: Nov 2025

Stage-III: Final Selection Board (FSB)

Conducted at Coast Guard Selection Board (CGSB), Noida

Duration: 4-5 days

Tests: Psychological Test, Group Task, Interview (Personality test)

Tentative Period: Jan-Oct 2026

Stage-IV: Medical Examination

Conducted at Base Hospital, New Delhi

Medical Standards: Strict criteria for height, weight, eyesight, and general health

Tentative Period: Mar-Apr 2026

Stage-V: Induction

Final merit list preparation and induction at Indian Naval Academy (INA), Ezhimala

Training Start: Early Jan 2027

Last Induction Date: 31 Dec 2026
